The Palm Beach Daily News exalts "A Benny Goodman medley... gave the audience an opportunity to enjoy a great, exhilarating drum solo by Steve Pemberton. Gene Krupa himself would have surely enjoyed his display of rhythmic mastery." - Nicole Rattinger (February 23, 1999)
REVIEW: LA Jazz Scene says "Pemberton urged the band on with his powerful, swinging drumming, while getting in a strong solo on this tune." They also said, "and once again, Pemberton pushed the band with an exciting force." - Bob Comden (February, 2006)
What's New
I was also recently down at the Hot Springs (AR) Jazz Festival with a Benny Goodman tribute! Fun was had by all.....
It has been a busy few months.... Some recent highlights include work with Impressionist/Comedian Rich Little, jazz vocalist Barbara Morrison, vocalist Roslyn Kind (Barbra Streisand's half-sister), jazz vocalist Herb Jeffries, actress/vocalist Valarie Pettiford, The Pasadena Pops Orchestra, The New Chordettes and jazz woodwind great Ray Pizzi.... In addition, I have just finished up some work in the studios with vocalist Susan Kohler, the Legends of Swing Big Band and even some tracks for film composer Mark Isham's son, Jake, along with some ongoing work over at Paramount Studios.
Starting in September, I'll be back on the road, touring in a very limited capacity with the Legends of Swing Big Band and also I have several dates with Hollywood icon Mickey Rooney.... I'll try to update my calendar soon so you'll know where to catch me.
Had the unique pleasure of working on the Cartoon Network's quirky "Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job!"... Fantastic cast and crew and a job I'll not soon forget! The bit we did was called "Jazz Sessions"... Don't know the air date yet.... So stay tuned!!
I recently did some recording/sidelining work for the CBS show "The Unit"... Here's an image I captured from the first airing of this episode, showing comedian/actor Don Rickles and myself in a dream sequence scene.
